Digital Product Launch Checklist: Everything to Prepare Before You Sell

The pre-launch, launch-day and first-week checklist that keeps preventable failures out of your launch.

Launches go wrong in boring, predictable ways: a payment link that was never tested, a sales page that never says who the product is for, a delivery method that breaks on the first sale. This checklist exists to make those mistakes impossible to make accidentally.

The week before launch

  • [ ] The product is genuinely finished — no "I'll patch it after launch" essentials
  • [ ] One sentence on the sales page says exactly who it is for
  • [ ] A price you can defend: your costs, the alternatives, the value to the buyer
  • [ ] Delivery tested: where the file lives, and exactly how the buyer receives it
  • [ ] Checkout tested in test or sandbox mode when available — and if your processor requires a live transaction, follow its official testing instructions and document the transaction and refund according to its rules. Never "test" by charging your own card at full price and refunding yourself.
  • [ ] A short FAQ: what is included, what is not included, how refunds work
  • [ ] A refund policy chosen to fit your product, platform and applicable requirements — there is no universal "standard" policy
  • [ ] A support plan: an email address you actually check

Launch day

  • [ ] Announce where your audience already is — email list, social, communities — with the what/who/inside/cost clearly stated
  • [ ] Walk through your own purchase flow once in test mode, end to end
  • [ ] Tell one person directly — the first human reply makes the next ones easier
  • [ ] Be reachable for questions all day

The first week after

  • [ ] Send a thank-you and a quick "how to get started" note to buyers
  • [ ] Log every question buyers ask — your FAQ writes itself from this list
  • [ ] Fix small issues fast; log bigger ones for a future version
  • [ ] Ask early buyers for honest feedback once they have used it
  • [ ] Record the numbers: visits, sales, refunds, questions — so the next launch has a baseline

What this checklist deliberately does not promise

A clean launch does not guarantee sales. Audience size, product-market fit, pricing and luck all matter more than checklists. What a checklist does guarantee: the things within your control — the flow, the page, the delivery — will not be the reason a buyer leaves or asks for a refund.
